Africa Mobile Networks says it has activated its 2,000th base station in Nigeria, extending its work in communities with limited or no existing mobile coverage. The company reports that its network reaches more than 4.7 million people with 2G, 3G and 4G services.
AMN is targeting more than 2,100 Nigerian sites by the end of 2026 and plans further expansion in 2027. Those figures represent company targets, while the 2,000-site milestone is the deployment announced this week.
Its rollout uses the AMN Radio Node, a multi-carrier system deployed across its towers since 2024. The company has also integrated Starlink satellite backhaul, including at a site in Yebu. Backhaul connects a local mobile site to the wider network.
AMN reported a test download speed above 81Mbps at the Yebu dual-band site. That is a particular test result, not a nationwide speed guarantee. The broader development is additional infrastructure that can bring mobile access to communities outside established coverage areas.
