Moroccan researcher Oussama Elasri and his co-founders have launched PhiDoc, a platform bringing funding opportunities, thesis planning, mentorship and researcher networking into one workspace.
The startup was founded in 2026 and went live in September. Its launch received new coverage on 4 November; this is not a claim that the platform first opened today.
Elasri, a management-sciences PhD researcher at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, traced the idea to missing an Erasmus+ opportunity in 2025. A spreadsheet of opportunities shared with colleagues developed into the wider service.
PhiDoc says its community includes around 1,500 researchers. The platform offers English, French and Arabic access, with low-bandwidth and offline functionality. Its revenue model combines institutional subscriptions, individual premium features and sponsored access. An institutional offering and a diaspora mentorship pilot are intended to connect universities and experienced researchers with doctoral candidates.
