Housing Finance Bank joins Interswitch’s 23,000-agent network in Uganda

Housing Finance Bank customers in Uganda can now access banking services through Interswitch’s Quickteller Agency Banking network following the launch of a new partnership in Kampala on 4 November.

The network provides more than 23,000 agents as an additional access channel for deposits, withdrawals and balance enquiries. It extends the bank’s reach beyond its branch network into communities where visiting a conventional banking office may be difficult.

According to reporting on the launch, the partnership processed more than UGX49 billion during its pilot phase. That is transaction value, rather than new revenue earned by either partner.

The arrangement gives the bank a distribution route through agents’ payment terminals, while Interswitch adds another financial institution to its network. Customers should use the bank’s official guidance for transaction requirements, fees and authorised locations. The announcement concerns agency access to an existing bank, rather than the launch of a new banking licence.
