MTN Uganda reported profit after tax of UGX571.2 billion for the nine months ended 30 September 2026, up 21.2% year on year, while warning of slower third-quarter momentum.
The increase partly reflects the absence of a UGX111 billion one-off tax settlement recorded in the prior year. Service revenue rose 8.5% to UGX2.84 trillion, so the profit increase should not be read as an identical improvement in underlying revenue growth.
Active data users rose to 12.6 million, but third-quarter data revenue growth slowed to 7.8%, compared with 17.5% in the second quarter. The company cited unauthorised Wi-Fi reselling alongside wider economic pressures.
Management now expects full-year service revenue growth broadly in line with the nine-month result and below its medium-term target. CEO Sylvia Mulinge said MTN would continue network investment and operational-efficiency work. The figures show the importance of separating headline profit growth from the pressures facing the operating business.
