Opinion: An acquisition headline should not be the only measure of a startup

An acquisition can be a meaningful outcome for founders and investors. It does not provide a complete account of the product, the customer experience or what the team will do next.

Coverage can ask how the technology will be used after the deal, which services continue and what changes for existing customers. If terms are undisclosed, a report should avoid turning speculation about value into a fact.

That approach leaves room to recognise a successful transaction while keeping attention on the business itself. A startup’s contribution includes useful software, capable teams and customer problems solved, alongside the financial outcome of an exit.
