South African insurer Naked has added pet cover, extending the digital insurance business co-founded by actuaries Sumarie Greybe, Alex Thomson and Ernest North in 2018.
Greybe told ITWeb that automation handles simpler claims while more complex cases go to people for review. The company’s pet insurance page describes three levels of cover for cats and dogs, with invoices submitted through its app and access to registered vets across South Africa.
The launch brings the founders’ technology-led approach to a category where customers often pay a vet before seeking reimbursement. Fast processing is a company claim rather than a guarantee for every case; reimbursements remain subject to the selected policy, limits, excess and applicable waiting periods. The product therefore adds another test of how well app-based insurance can combine convenience with understandable customer support.
