Ted Pantone and Peter Gross build Turaco through embedded insurance

Ted Pantone and Peter Gross founded Turaco in 2019 to make insurance easier to access through services people already use.

The Nairobi-based insurtech combines partner distribution with underwriting and claims technology. Its model targets affordable cover for customers who may be underserved by conventional channels.

In September 2026, 3IF Ventures announced Turaco as its first investment. The amount was not disclosed, so the fund’s typical ticket size should not be presented as the value of this particular deal.

The founders’ challenge is to make insurance useful after enrolment as well as easy to buy. Clear cover, understandable exclusions and reliable claims handling determine whether an embedded product delivers value beyond its distribution reach.
