Ethio Telecom has awarded ETB1.8 million to the leading teams in its inaugural Capture the Flag cybersecurity competition.

Addis Ababa Science and Technology University took first place and ETB800,000. The American College of Technology received ETB600,000 for second place, while Adama Science and Technology University earned ETB400,000 in third.

Practical security skills on show

The competition took place at the Sheraton Addis in Addis Ababa on November 3. It formed part of the operator’s sixth annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month programme, held under the theme Secure by Habit.

The event focused on practical cybersecurity problem-solving and teamwork among university and college participants.

The awards put a public spotlight on emerging security talent and the use of competition-based exercises to demonstrate skills.
