FCMB and Mastercard have introduced AgroPass, a digital platform designed to connect Nigerian smallholder farmers with finance, markets and agricultural services.
The launch, covered on 2 November, combines Mastercard’s Community Pass technology with FCMB’s agricultural network. The proposed connections include input suppliers, buyers, lenders and other participants in the farming value chain.
The partners say digital records of business activity can make farmers easier to serve and help improve access to opportunities. The launch should be distinguished from measured outcomes: the announcement does not establish that every registered farmer has received financing. Adoption, transaction activity and the services available to participants will be important measures of progress.
