MFWA introduces journalist safety framework covering digital threats

The Media Foundation for West Africa has introduced a Model Safety of Journalists Policy addressing physical, digital, legal and psychological threats faced by media workers.

TechAfrica News reports that the policy was launched at a Ghana forum focused on ending impunity for attacks against journalists. Communications minister Samuel Nartey George used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to press freedom and accountability.

The document provides a framework for media organisations. Its digital component brings the security of reporting work into the same discussion as newsroom duty of care and practical support.
