South Africa’s Telkom has introduced Fibre to the Room, an additional service for qualifying Openserve Fibre customers.
The offering extends fibre connectivity to Wi-Fi access points inside a home, addressing the problem of uneven coverage across rooms.
Reaching beyond the main router
Telkom says the all-optical in-home network is designed for larger houses, multi-storey properties and buildings where thick walls weaken wireless signals.
The service targets households using multiple connected devices, including home-office equipment, streaming systems and online gaming devices.
The announcement concerns connectivity within a property. It should not be read as a promise that every customer’s underlying broadband package will become faster. Eligibility, installation requirements and package terms should be checked with Telkom.
