Helium Health has secured a $2.5 million Google.org grant to support clinical artificial intelligence in maternal healthcare in Nigeria, with Lagos serving as the main operational base for a rollout spanning four states.
The company’s 4 November announcement identifies Lagos, Delta, Kano and Oyo as the implementation states. Helium Health is one of 15 global recipients in the $30 million Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation and will also receive support through a dedicated accelerator.
Its HeliumMum initiative connects pregnancy-risk identification with healthcare providers using electronic records and clinical decision-support tools. The programme also aims to give public authorities better information about gaps in care.
Helium Health says it aims to reach an additional 1.9 million women over three years and contribute to a 30% reduction in maternal mortality. Those figures are programme targets, rather than outcomes already demonstrated by the new funding. The award is a grant, rather than an equity investment.
