Opinion: Secure-by-default software needs support beyond the workshop

Developer events increasingly discuss building secure systems alongside faster development. That conversation becomes more useful when it continues into the tools and working conditions teams use after the event.

Practical defaults can reduce unnecessary exposure, but developers also need understandable documentation, maintainable dependencies and a clear route to report a problem. Organisations should allow time to review and update a service rather than measuring progress only by feature releases.

Training is one part of the system. Procurement and management decisions influence whether the practices taught in a workshop can survive a production deadline. Supporting secure development means treating maintenance and review as normal work, not as an optional clean-up exercise.
