Ghana reports GH¢209.7 million in cybercrime losses over nine months

Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority recorded an estimated GH¢209.7 million in losses linked to reported cybersecurity incidents between January and September 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency’s report of an October briefing, the authority recorded 4,938 incidents during the period. Director-General Divine Selasi Agbeti said under-reporting means the recorded cases do not capture the entire problem.

The figures put financial fraud and public trust at the centre of the country’s digital transformation debate. They are reported losses, rather than a comprehensive assessment of every cyber-related cost. For institutions expanding online services, the policy challenge includes making incident reporting accessible and ensuring that security awareness reaches the communities using those services.
