Tanzanian healthtech startup Medikea has raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding through successive closes as it expands its combination of virtual consultations and physical healthcare facilities.

Its model brings clinics, pharmacies and diagnostic laboratories under one operation. Patients can begin a consultation remotely, attend a clinic when an examination is needed, obtain medication and continue follow-up online with a shared medical record.

Backers include Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund, develoPPP Ventures, Madica, Impacc and other investors. The startup is opening two additional clinics and targeting a network of ten facilities by the end of 2027.

By operating facilities and employing its clinical team, Medikea takes responsibility for more of the patient journey than a standalone telemedicine marketplace. The new funding supports that expansion, while the planned ten-site network remains a future target.
